Looking out for some feed back for anyone with e scooters out in their vans
how do you find them
reliability
value for money?
over rated after the initial fashion
were thinking on getting one just to zip to shops etc any comments advice greatly appreciated in advance
any one selling one?
 
We are also interested in that seen several about here in Portugal and even one that has a seat, that looks good, don't know what the regs are here for them, but as you say good for a quick nip to the shops etc lighter than bikes etc how do folks recharge them inverters? Or via their van batteries via solar?
 
Yes but they can get away from the Rozzers, us older scrotes would just stop if challenged.

Correct. Kev. A 14 year old received a Supervision Order yesterday for riding one on the pavement and killing a 71 year old woman. The lad seemed to be a decent sort, phoning 999 immediately, and staying with the lady until the paramedics arrived. In Court he apologised again to the lady's family and to his own parents for letting them down. The Parents were given a Parenting Order for not being aware that the scooter was illegal, but no reprimand or other penalty for the Retailer/Importer of the scooter. The 14 year old also has a 5 year driving ban for when he is old enough to get a Driving Licence ...

I thought the driving ban was a bit irrelevant, and the rest not severe enough accident or not.

Not what the Judge thought, and a 5 year ban as soon as he applies for a Licence won't be irrelevant, either in terms of the wait to learn to drive, or in terms of the impact on his insurance premiums [assuming a front line insurer will take him on]. Why no opprobium for the Retailer who sells the scooter without pointing out that it's illegal to ride them on other than private land in UK, and for not checking that the lad had a provisional Driving Licence before the sale was made?

Have to agree to disagree on that one Steve.

He was 14 and could not hold a driving licence and he was a on a scooter not driving a road vehicle, I think he should have had a stiffer fine and 24 month community service helping old people.

Why did the Retailer sell the sccooter without the checks about Private Land Usage only and the confirmation that the purchaser had the requisite Licence? The subsequent problems could have been avoided ...

I agree on that, I expect the legal ones for hire will be of a higher (geddit) standard in order to get the required insurance, and possibly all places buy them from the same source to make that process easier them being of a certain standard and quality, so any others should be refused an import licence, and the importers fined if they work around that, for use on private ground is just a red herring and should not be allowed at all.

No checks are required for escooter Steve, that’s what makes it so crazy. Anyone with a grain of intelligence knows they are going to more than likely be used illegally but everyone from government down is happy to boost the economy. Downside of them being illegal is there are a lot of dangerous escooter sold here

Have you considered a Ebike? look in a Decathlon or Hyper Markets if your in France some can be VAT free purchases or a low subsidised rate in France

Don’t get it Steve, there are oodles of electric scooters for hire in the Liverpool City boundary. Are they meant to be used on the road only?

The problem is, Eric, the electric sccoter is classified as a 'powered transporter' and is therefore banned from use on pavements, but cannot be used on the road electric scooter use problems. UK is carrying out research [US hire company propaganda?] and hopes to bring in legislation in 2023 or 2024. It's a mess at present!

Had a regular customer years ago . Young , disabled guy (spina bifida?)
who drove an electric buggy thing .
Got breathalysed and charged by police . Can't remember if he was on pavement or road . Possibly neither could he !
Think it was dropped
