We spent the Saturday night at Brittany ferries carpark ready for our sailing to Caen. We awoke at 6.30am and made our way into the queue, within half an hour we were checked in, got asked a few questions from border force, but they didn't bother to search the motorhome.
I had took a gamble and had some of my favourites in the fridge, which could have been confiscated if they had decided, but I was willing to take the risk.
Once on board I went to reception to see if they had a cabin available as I decided I wanted some extra sleep, we got a 4 berth cabin for £27.00 so went and got a bit more shut eye until 12.30. We then went to the restaurant, but the A la carte was closed due to staff shortages, so we went to the self service restaurant, we both had two courses and a coffee each, the bill I thought was reasonable at £30.00. within an hour it was time to disembark.
It was a pretty smooth operation and we were soon at passport control, again no customs search. We spent the night at an Aire in Caen with full services for €13 euros, next to the hospital. The weather was showery, so rather than get the bikes or the scooter out we decided to catch the number 2 bus from the stop over the road, think it was €1.80 each.
We explored Caen and had a Plat du Jour for lunch before returning back to the motorhome, we topped up at the service point, then got some fuel and LPG and set off to Courseulles Sur Mer very close to Juno beach that was used during the DDay landings, stopping on a free aire, but no services, luckily we emptied and refilled at the previous Aire. There is a market in the town tomorrow, so we will explore the DDay beaches before setting off to Mont Saint Michel tomorrow afternoon.
