Don't get us started on Climate change :rolleyes: :rolleyes: it has been changing since the beginning the earth was formed and will continue long after we've killed ourselves off, yes we're not helping but it could also be just part of the process we have no control over, and this just stop oil crap is nonsense they would be the first to complain if they all had to walk to these protests, and there was no social media to arrange it all.
 
Hyundai & Kia have issued a safety re-call on 92,000 of their cars in the USA this week & until re-called owners have been avised NOT to park in car parks or confined spaces ,,,, Only a matter of time before they will be banned from Chunnel & Ferries etc etc ,,,,, imo ,,, ???

Maybe not an actual request per se, so can you link to some facts that support your point of view please?

And drop the name calling please, we're supposed to be adults on here, and most of us are.
 
I was going to join this discussion after seeing the almost total destruction of the upper part of that ship on fire.

Whatever started it, the fire started and the presence of one or more EVs prevented the fire being put out and a massive steel structure was destroyed.

I immediately wondered what would be the effect of a fire, from whatever cause, in an underground carpark beneath an office block or residential tower block?

A second Grenfell incident perhaps?

But after the catfight started I decided not to bother.
 
I agree Yellow as yet again the Forum has been hijacked & gone completely OFF TOPIC,,,, Our renewal is due soon & had some gr8 informative discussions on here but we are now maybe looking at leaving the site as cant be bothered with the hassle ???

It happens now and then when someone posts something unsubstantiated, no problem with a different viewpoint but you do need the odd fact now and then.

Most threads are very amicable so just look at those.
 
Finally, calling somebody Trump has become perjorative. Well that's progress in my book. Not the name calling bit, I mean the actual use of the word Trump as an insult. I expect it may become quite common.

Your input has been very helpfull since you've been on here.....so I wouldn't let a little squabble by a minority upset you & make members lose out on what you have to give. Chris.

Those of you who were so quick to point the finger at an EV for starting the fire on board the Fremantle Highway may be interested in the results of the preliminary inspection by the salvors.

“After the fire on the car cargo ship off the Dutch coast, the media hastily identified an electric car as the cause. Now it turns out – that this is not true.

Even though the cause of the fire is still unknown, the EV theory no longer holds up after the freighter was inspected. The lower four of the twelve decks are essentially undamaged, and about 1,000 cars, including the 498 electric ones, are in good condition. This is according to the chief of salvage company Royal Boskalis Westminster NV, Peter Berdowski.

According to the head of the salvage company, the four uppermost decks, on which there were no electric cars, are so damaged that it is hard to walk on them and that the vehicles there (again, no EVs!) are literally fused to the ground. The affected carmakers are now investigating how their vehicles can be moved.

The ‘Fremantle Highway’ is currently docked in Eemshaven in the Netherlands. Soon, the heavy fuel oil will be pumped out of the ship to prevent leakage and environmental pollution. The ‘Fremantle Highway’ can remain in the port until 14 October. Then it will have to be towed to another location – whether for repair or scrapping is not yet known.”

Yes a small quantity of the earlier 30kw E400 air cooled batteries have suffered some cell failures and all 4600 of them are being replaced,
the US version of the recall stated:

"Three (3) thermal incidents limited to battery case
assembly (two (2) from U.S.; one (1) from Canada), no injuries, no
crashes and no fatalities."

The main bulk of the Hyundai & Kia recall affecting many thousands of cars world wide is to replace 14L of low conductivity cooling fluid used in the newer batteries. In some cases it had begun to crystallize and in other cases during servicing an airlock during filling was causing the car to burp with a drop in level and a subsequent dash warning.

Hyundai & Kia have switched to an alternate fluid and the dealerships now vacuum fill the circuit.

I had mine done a few weeks ago under warranty during it's 3rd service

I just read the post by tonybvi saying that the cars (not EV's) were fused to the deck. So I suggest that the firefighters take a look at the heat in a car fire, the heat needed to weld metal and the heat output of an EV fire. In all the car fires I have seen (3) I have not seen even componants like the bonnet of a car "fused" to the wings! And they are in direct line to the heat of the fire!
 
I'd have one but too expensive new and not clearly understood yet to be a good used buy.

You are correct I am an EV fan and both my cars are EV’s. However my post above is copied from information communicated by the salvage company and widely circulated so I assume (possibly incorrectly) that this is a reasonably accurate account of their findings having inspected the vessel once it was safe to go on board.
As mentioned previously the Danish authorities recently commissioned an investigation into vehicle fires in enclosed spaces. The conclusion is that a) there are far more fires (pro rata) affecting ICE vehicles than EV vehicles but b) an EV fire is more intense and far harder to extinguish. Their firefighters are now being trained to handle EV fires by water misting, which doesn’t extinguish the fire but controls the spread.

I probably would. But not the fashionista cars like Tesla. We only use our car for fairly short journeys, so an EV would suit. But it would be a Kia. I have a Kia at the moment, it has been a fantastic car. And looking at the Kia bumf, it has the same 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty.

(I would really like a Stinger, the Kia M3 eater! But 'er indoors says at 72, I am too old to kill myself!)
