Weather Report..................

I've changed my mind... on closer inspection, what I thought was a deep frost is actually a light covering of snow! It's still clinging to grass and cars in the shade but the sun will get to it eventually. Gorgeous day.

Good thinking, Lad.
Canaries again ... ?
Don't forget to pack the smug filter.

Thanks, Paul. And yes, it's Gran Canaria 7/2/19-18/2/19.
I've taken on board your concerns and have had detailed technical discussions with my smug filter supplier, SmugGrin. They advise me that for the somewhat extreme weather differences expected between the Canary Islands and the UK in any given February, I'm likely to need their XtremeSmug unit. The extra cost over the MidSmug unit that I usually tow behind the Moho is, frankly, huge but in the interests of everybody's sanity I'm prepared to make the investment. We then looked over the technical specifications for the XtremeSmug and realised that the Canary Islands simply don't have the spare generating capacity to power it. SmugGrin got their technical team to reassess the current weather forecast differences between the Canaries and UK and pointed out that if the weather difference is unusually small then I may just cope with the MaxSmug.
As an expert in the field you'll be aware that as the capacity of a smug filter reduces so the power requirement reduces in step but the cost, volume and weight diminish at a much reduced rate.
I've mentioned above that, in the interest of everybody's mental well being, I'm prepared to take the financial penalty of a large smug filter. It's frankly the weight and volume that's the issue. I'm travelling by air and the MaxSmug would need to be transported by sea. Even if we could arrange crating and shipping by tomorrow it wouldn't arrive on site and be commissioned before I leave the Canaries on 18/2/19.
So my apologies to your goodself and the other visitors to the thread in the first half of February. I've done my best but there may be a little more ahead of you than you can reasonably be expected to bear.

Colin :):):)

A lovely clear start to the day in Hertfordshire with Venus, Jupiter (?) and the Moon all pretty much in a straight line low on the horizon:

It's continued in a similarly spectacular fashion for most of the day with cloud gradually making a claim for the sky from about 1500.
(Apologies for the quality of this photo but I hadn't realised that the phone lens had misted over in the cold air).

Colin ???

I'm lots of things, Chris, but not a cheapskate.
Paul, I'm led to believe, resides north of Watford when in the UK so alternative standards may well apply.

Colin :):):)
Excuse me Colin, just because we shop at Aldi and the like and are major traders on eBay, these are not cheapskate characteristics that us northerners recognise. Value for money is our motto not like our frivolous southern cousins, smug is a state of mind that we aspire to every day, mind you Paul is in the Premier League on that count ???

This has come as quite a shock, Val54. I can understand the vast majority of your posts so had naturally assumed that you are either Southern or, at the very least, an honorary Southerner.
I'm so, so sorry.
Aldi ?

Colin ???

Well I’m away to Invergordon on Thursday (for a change) to be cold forecast is saying Aberdeenshire is to be extremely cold -14? Being quoted ,
Truck heating is great wished it would drive itself ,knows the bl- - dy road for sure,Swedish machine

Could always look for smug filters on ebay Colin; I think that's where Paul gets his ;)
I can only sympathise with Colin. It's a nightmare, sourcing reliable smug filters... Especially in the UK in the winter months, ( September to July). They say there's not enough demand and the few that they do sell, rarely need replacing due to overuse.
I get mine from a little old craftsman in Fiji, he's in his 90s, makes only one a month, should have died years ago, but is too damn busy.
Even his have been known to fail.
Enjoy your sybaritic holiday and don't worry about having to post perfect pics... Nobody else does.
Ps.
We've got light, intermittent drizzle, more later promised.
We're sleeping indoors tonight

Minus. 14, Gordon?...
Agggh !
Is there any chance that things will improve?
We're flying into Newcastle, in 4 weeks for a jolly family wake. Scattering ashes on South Shields beach.
We can only bring 42Kg luggage.. Most of which will have to be thermals.

I’m sorry, let me translate that for you....... Aldi = Waitrose. ??

That made me laugh-out-loud, Val54.
Thank you.

(I re-read my post after pushing the 'send' button and rather hoped that it would be taken the way you clearly have. Contrary to popular belief, I'm actually quite an easy going, open minded sort of Southern person and even have a couple of relatively close Northern friends).
