What did you do to your van today?

Put water in the fresh tank yesterday. First time this year!
  • confirmed the electric element in the Ultrastore is working (y)
  • confirmed the water pump is working (y)
  • also confirmed the kitchen tap is leaking again(n) (looks like I need to remove and reseat the cartridge?)

Made the bed! (sounds minor, but meaning actually got all the bedding out the house and into the van :) )
Bit of vacuuming and final water tank cleaning plus some WD40 to try and free up a nut on one of the external locker locks that needs adjusting (don't fancy my chances of freeing it though :( )

I've quite taken to Dry PTFE spray, David, from the WD40 makers; seems to work better, but at 2.5 times the price, it should!

not heard of that. I used to use "PlusGas" which works better, but can has now run out. C'est la vie

My first can of dry PTFE fell out of the Broom Cupboard, hit a large, sharp stone, punctured, and stank the Aire at Roquetes in early April. Replacement can bought from Leclerc Hypermarket [plus a spray can of Contact Cleaner] at Miranda de Ebro at €11.99, just under £1 more expensive than Screwfix

Reminds me of a can of Dr Pepper .... bought a case and one fell out, landed on the floor (in the house) and exploded - One can managed to decorate 4 walls, a floor and a ceiling. Still finding evidence of the event a year later. Never ever buy it in cans again!!

I'll have a look out :)

Began to pack for Hollingworth and the onward trip to France, so stripped out a 21 litre box of hand tools, EHU adapters and sundry 'Just in Case' bits of kit. In France we'll be at our hovel, so there will be duplicates [triplicates?] of the tools and stuff I've removed today, and we need spce/payload to start bringing stuff back to Scotland

Took van down to mate garage and had oil change done and while it was over the pit I gave the underside a good spraying of lanoguard all sorted for an other year.

Will try that stuff 👍can it be used externally as well (outside) ?
I use it to spray on the bike chains and on the front suspension forks that are very prone to stick, and a few quick presses on the brake lever soon restores the suspension function [until the new sandstorm, ride through grit surfaces puts a fresh coat of grime on everything]

Tried some more WD40, as well as a blowtorch (carefully!) to try and free the nut. No go. Concerned that too much torque on the rusted up bolt will have unwanted consequences (lug snapping off, or ripping bolt from Fibreglass door) so went for alternative solution.
These two bolts are totally exposed to the elements and water splashed up off the road so after over 15 years I guess it is not surprising they would look like this?

This one I can leave alone - it is the other one that needs adjusting, and this is why ....

But came up with a solution and this is the result (note the initial noise is from the front of the locker where I haven't closed it at all)

As I couldn't move the lock bar at all closer into the door, I drilled a 4mm hole in the bar, and put in a long bolt. Using a nut and some trial and error adding some washers, I got the right distance for this to act as the lock bar.

If you want tidier solution, David, I have some 5mm diameter aluminium tubing that we could use to make a packing piece
