What did you do to your van today?

Washed the outside yesterday, including all the muck off the roof, and removed most of the moss that has grown in the awning channel and in the rear 'lid' of the Burstner roof panel, but then the light faded. Overnight we have had a deluge, and the Van roof will be filthy again, and more moss will spring up. Hey ho.

Didn't need the seeds, David; I could have planted next year's hanging baskets with the amount of thick moss that develops over the 'curtain' from which the Bike Rack is suspended, plus the moss that accumulates in the awning rail ... And, of course, having rinsed the Van body off 1 panel at a time, when the moss was ejected, it left black/brown smudges over the areas that I had just cleaned.

On the bright side, the deluge that lasted over 12 hours has now stopped, and the pool of water that always gathers at the base of the roof curve looks perfectly clean. So, if I pull away sharp'ish, then slam on the brakes, my rooftop rinsing pool should wash off any accumulated dust on the body!

A few years ago I was driving along a dual carriageway. There was a 'Orrible smell. My passenger said "It's not me!" and I said "And don't look at me either!" Then on the opposite carriageway we saw the source. An open-topped lorry had been carrying a full load of entrails from an abbatoir. For some reason it had come to a sudden stop - maybe its vacuum brakes suddenly lost their vacuum. A large proportion of the load of entrails had slooshed over the cab and on to the road. Bleurrgh!
Oh, back to the thread. Today we returned home from a lovely weekend at Goosnagh, I emptied the van, slooshed the cassette, and stashed the food in the kitchen cupboards. What a thrill.

Today I got my van back from having new brake shoes fitted. I also bought a little portable gas heater from amazon (van heater is poor) and then im off on the 2nd Dec to hereford for a trip to their Xmas market on the Friday.

I moved a BM6 from the VB to the LB, I cut a few feet off a ladder I just bought on eBay, as it was too long for what it would be used for: cleaning the van's roof, hi-level lights, Heki, and the solar panels.

Hopefully.

What's best to clean the green stuff off the roof, and hinder it coming back?

I just use car shampoo and clean the muck off the roof 2-3 times a year. Then I remove the moss that grows in the awning rail and in the roof overhang, so a 'quick wash' turns into a 3-4 hours exercise (and it only stopped after 4 hours because it became too dark and cold to continue ... 🤣

Be careful with the portable gas heater. Some are not meant for indoor use and can be dangerous.

The correct torque for anything on a vehicle is "As tight as you can, plus a grunt"
I recall telling my daughter how to tighten the propane connection onto a bottle: "Tighten it as tight as you can possibly get it, then tighten it a bit more".

For years now I have used Wet n Forget on my van, back yard, and anywhere else that gathers moss like wooden gates, decking etc. It keeps the van totally clear of mossy windows, especially the roof, it's totally safe and will not harm sealants, so my last clean before it rests up for winter it gets a good spraying of it, no green horrors come the spring.

I might manage 20 minutes, there will be no cleaning marathons on the outside.

A word of warning... I suspect it depends on the sealant as (over five or six years) Wet&Forget removed the sealant from one of my roof joints and I had a massive leak into the rear of the van. I've re-sealed the joint and it's now watertight -- but I still need to replace some of the low-density MDF that Auto-Trail constructed the rear overhead cupboard carcases from!

Well I had the unfortunate pleasure of replacing my of side wing mirror yesterday as I had twatted against a gate post reversing it .I was quite surprised how cheap it was but that's life for you lolol.

Good to get them all done at the same time though and you will now have peace of mind for a few years. Just keep them topped up with air regularly so they don't wear unevenly too much (not wishing to teach granny to suck eggs!).

Enjoy your trip.

Look on the bright side, £500 for 5 new tyres means you got 12 years running for £500, or £41.66 a year. Good lord that's nearly a pound a week for each tyre!(y)
Besides, think how good this will be for your waistline, cholesterol, blood pressure etc.
You will finish Christmas clear eyed, fit as a butchers dog and raring to make use of those £5 a week tyres,
Or you could have a coffee. 🤔
Have a good trip, and feel righteous as others gorb themselves silly.
