And the start of the Lea Navigation. This takes traffic down to the Thames, meeting it opposite the O2 Arena.
And, of course, Hertford has several buildings associated with the brewery. This is probably the most unusual!
There's a C&CC site in Hertford should you wish to visit this lovely county town.

As you say, a couple of beautiful rivers and navigations though last time I cycled down the Lea navigation into London the Stort needed a bit of clearing and dredging for anything other than vessels propelled with paddles! When I was a kid I used to fish the Lea navigation by Ponders End in London and was often interrupted by the horse drawn barges working the factories and wood yards thereabouts. THAT'S how old I am! I now live nearer the opposite end of the river Lee - it passes opposite the house here and the wildlife associated with it is a joy.

Full Member;n27072 said:I'm not aware of a lake in or near Hertford, Chris, but further down the navigation towards London there's quite a few lakes and sanctuaries - all part of the Lee Valley Park. The first is pretty much where the Stort joins the Lee just to the east of Hoddesdon. I know that used to be a good spot for crayfish - and now the rivers are cleaner may well still be so. BTW I believe that bitterns have returned to the Lee bird sanctuaries.
