What did you do to your van today?

Been a busy few days, bought a new carpet for the cab area last year. Rolled it out and found that there was enough to do the full interior. That done I set about raising the bed so that our folding bikes would fit better. Took it up 4 inches, now both fit vertically, I didn't measure the the required height when doing the original build. So all is looking good for when we finally get to stretch our wings in the big Blue beasty.🚐

One of my indicator bulbs rear was loosing its colour so decided to change it. Bigger job than I thought of course, the terminals were gungy and needed cleaning, then there were iffy connections loose crimps etc. Got that sorted and Al good one side so decided to look at the other side, similar story, the tail light was dim again needed cleaning and making tight, fog light was not working so cleaned it up sprayed WD 40 everywhere and now all good, my water tank cap stopped locking so I ordered a new one from E Bay decided on a black one, that arrived today, I wanted to clean the holder but it rained really hard so gave up on that and took the original cap into my shed and took it apart as much as possible cleaned and lubricated it and now it locks but it is white and looks tatty, so I won't be refitting that, problem now is I have an extra key to try and find on the bunch as I need it I swill have a look at replacing the lock with the original as and when but it does not seem likely as it appears to be sealed in. Also noticed one side marker light not working so took that apart and found corrosion on the terminals, experience with these lights has taught me that it is easier to replace the bulb holder as you cannot get to the terminals properly so did that , Sods law the push on crimp connector fell off , so replaced that so all good now, It probably appears that I neglected these things but I have not all was fine when we departed for our winter Jolly to Portugal and Spain last November but hey ho now all OK [I hope ] hee hee. Fiat electrical connectors are not the best in the rear light clusters and can get wet so that does not help matters.

Doing quite a bit to your van then. I feel for your son. But perhaps not on the right thread.

Is the thread not titled WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR VAN TODAY? I only stated what I had done to my van today
Correct. And yes, you have told us what you have done to your van.
I've done a bit of plumbing, and re-wired a fridge cooling fan. So snap.
I'm still at a loss as to why we're getting medical update's on someone's youngest, on this tread.

Yes I have fitted 2 fans to the 3 way fridge on separate switches so I can have 1 or both on.I have a 3 way at my of grid place in Spain and found that in peak summer it still struggled to make ice on gas but 2 and it worked fine I put 2 4" fans behind the vent again sucking air out of the building. When I get to assembling the 3kw solar I will be able to use a normal domestic fridge freezer ,till then the 3 way does the job

Landyseverywhere.
The magic of a quick edit.:)
A fan makes all the difference doesn't it. I've only got the one. there's plenty of room for a second.

I'm now down to just two outstanding jobs to do. Both involve getting up on the roof. Something I've been putting off for ages. Hammerite the dodgy roof paint work, and fit the second solar panel. Everything's ready to go. All except one vital thing, Me. Later next week. Honest. Maybe.

Beware hammerite !!you can not paint over it.even isolator coat won't do it.
Got the Direct to Galvanise Hammerite. If it doesn't match, not to worry , I'll be the only one who knows it's there.
07 Fiat. Top coat is peeling off. I've had the main parts re painted professionally, and was told Hammerite wold do the trick.

Brings to mind a story from the early 80s reported in local Peterborough paper ,A guy had his car resprayed at a local garage a couple of days later the paint blew off the bonnet in a sheet when he was driving,Trading standards took the painter to court and lost the case, the painter said we did it right the paint manufacturer says no prep ,no undercoat ,no rust

Oil filter is horizontal on my engine so have rely on residual oil in bearings etc.
The only vehicle I can prime the filter on is my 1971 Lotus Elan - the modern cars have paper elements with holes at the bottom of 'bowl'
Whilst I do drain thoroughly (with vacuum system) I always fill up straightaway so I don't reckon the wear is significant and must be what the manufacturer expects.
When starting an engine after rebuild or standing for months I'd reckon to remove spark plugs to allow oil circulation without combustion loads. But not a lot of chance for that on a diesel 😀
Dont do it with a modern car as the ecu will get bugg-red,remove the injection fuse and turn her over to the oil light goes out then fuse in and start.
