Prostate Cancer

We were walking in the high street, close to home. Wifey said she felt a bit sick so we went into the pharmacist shop that we were outside of. "Can I use your toilet? I don't feel well". NO. Staff only. Back outside she threw up at the entrance to the pharmacist. Back home we made an appointment with the doctor surgery. Went there the next day, and the doctor took a heart pulse recording thing and said nothing much wrong with you, go home and rest. The head of the practice made a point of wandering round looking at ECGs - or is it EGRs or is that a motorhome exhaust. I forget. Anyway as soon as he saw my Mrs's one he ran into the reception, said reschedule all his patients, grabbed his emergency bag, ran out the door and drove fast to our house. Connected his EGR valve thing and immediately phoned an ambulance. Wifey had had a heart attack just outside the pharmacist. In hospital she had a stent put in and they gave us a graphic description of the damage done to her heart. That doctor has since retired. He was the favouritest doctor in town, and no wonder. It was his practice, I don't know what his salary was but whatever it was, he was worth it. He only drove a pretty ordinary car, and I never saw a new one in his spot. He was a sikh, a really lovely humble man, always chatted in his appointments, never tried to shove you out the door before he had extracted all the psychological information that he could. He did say that a lot of peoples troubles can be found better by chatting than probing and poking the body.
Outside the pharmacy now there is an emergency defibrilator machine. I just wonder if Dr Masharani had something to do with its installation. And the doctor who failed to recognise heart failure on the ECG very soon found other employment for some reason.

Yes part of the welcome ro cancer pack
Eurrgh. That is not a welcome I want to hear. . . . .
The last time I had a Doctor's finger up my bum he said "Oh, I've never seen that before." Well that encouraged me, didn't it? "One side is small and the other is larger than normal." Side of what exactly, I never found out.
They did a wotsit blood test and rang me the next day and said it was borderline. I had to ask them to explain what that meant, and apparently there's some kind of scale and I was in the middle. So I said what number is lower than the border and what number is above. Well you are a bit above but only just so just come back in a year and have another test. Harrumph. That wasn't Dr Masharani, the chap I wrote about in my last post.

Side of the prostate? The PSA test result can be expected to increase with age, so the "border" moves with age.

Well went to quacks today. It was a rather pretty young female doctor (pretty says that doesn't it?) Did not get to cuddle her but she apologised for not having longer fingers so all a little embarrassing but no (probs otherwise) so booked in for blood test next week. Our blood test genius seems to have retired or something so some trepidation at prospect, some of them do not seem to know how to do it painlessly like Nurse Jane did.
If I go to hospital I park a little distance away but near a suitable bus stop and bus in to hospital, no parking charge and in Truro the bus drops me nearer to hospital entrance than the car park is.

Next will be the prob up the jacksie which they push through the poo pipe to take samples of prostate, you wont feel a thing and over in minutes.

A bit of advice about blood tests. A couple of times after jabbing me in three places and failing to get any, the nurse told me I must drink a pint of water as soon as I get up on the morning of the test. Make an appointment for midday - ish. The reason is that if you don't drink a lot of water, your blood is thick, they can't pierce the vein, the needle slides to the side of it because it is like a stiff pipe. Drinking a lot of water thins the blood, and makes the vein tube pliable and more easily punctured. I have since done that several times for blood tests and it does work.

The nurse said to me its only a little prick, i said please just take the blood and dont be looking down there. 😂

They struggle with mine regardless, I have in the past had three people have a go.

The other tip for helping with "difficult veins" is to have a heat pack/hot water bottle and warm the veins up before anyone stabs you. Used to do this for chemo patients whose veins can be really hard to access. Used to soak their arm in sink of hot water but then the plugs were removed (infection control,I think?) so resorted to other methods of warming the veins.

I am the opposite to you Kev I pee for England I must got about 10 to 15 times a day lolol
Me too ex windy and Pudsey had the finger up test the other day but she (pretty little doctor) said her fingers too short but sent me for blood test
Urine test showed infection so now on penicillin but no result on BT yet. Met old friend yesterday out walking with his wife 88 and still striding out like a Paratrooper. Hope for us all yet eh? Mind you he thinks I am good still cycling at 82. Keep active those of us that can eh?

Well done

I would recommend doing a PSA test as doctors are not always competent with a digital examination.
If the PSA comes back over 4.0, I would recommend seeing a urologist a.s.a.p.

But trigger levels are age-dependent.

You really need to see the right GP, preferably male and out of nappies, don't be fobbed off.
