Solar panels

Well I was hoping the gas strut would turn up today but no. So here are some pictures of how I’ve fitted the adjustable struts to the roof +how I’ve fastened the panels down to roof.Got my mate to make some nylon tube nuts as they wont vibrate off .The struts are made of a couple of adjustable walking sticks and they work great but not really long enough for the winter sun but will be fine in the summer .I am getting some box section stainless to make up two long ones for the winter + fit gas struts as lifting them will be a lot easier.I also fitted a strap from the edge of the panels to the roof as you can see in picture.

off topic here, but what's the deal with the post code on the roof?
To increase the chance of recovery if it is stolen. You should do it. After all, zebra-striped sprinters are ten-a-penny on the road!
Seriously, it does make sense. Mine has the registration number on the roof, fitted by a previous owner. Good idea, I think.

I can see a slight downside .... Van with say "SL4 1QF" postcode on roof. Someone sees it up around near say Crathie and thinks 'Ahh, I think Liz and Phil are up here sightseeing. Think I'll raid their gaff daan sarf'
Of course Postcodes usually cover quite a few properties so not quite that easy, but maybe makes it a bit more obvious.
I was wondering if discount for tracker maybe?

Might be someone else's postcode: it only has to be distinctive and memorable, after all. Maybe a rude word would be more effective!

Looking good Jeff, you should connect them upto your house and run your lighting and tele during the day.?

Nice job Jeff the struts will be a nice finishing touch. Are you going down the same route as ray and fitting lithium batteries.

I was thinking if you could get a hold of an old police van with mesh protection for the windscreen you know the one that slides up and down attach a couple of panels might work with a bit of adaptation like lengthen the runner or am I off on one again
