We could have easily held out for a better price for ours but could only realistically see a slide coming, so just got rid to be free and get on living it up in some great free camp spots!

You see a house, if you like the house you put in your offer and if it is then accepted then the selling agent notifies the "Notaire" (a government approved solicitor/official), you both then have to sign an official promise to buy form.
Both parties then have a 7 day cooling off period during which time either party can pull out, but from then on after the 7th day, if either party pulls out they have to surrender 10% of the sale value to the other party.
Throughout the entire sales process from then on there are no other solicitors involved, it is all handled by the Notaire.

It would make the entire house sales process so much easier in the UK if a similar system was adopted in the UK.

Even better is when you come to sign the contract. The seller, buyer, notaire, agent and other interested parties sit round a table and all sign ( or initial) the paperwork. If any problems or questions come up, they can be answered/ solved straight away.
We had a question about drainage / septic tank at the property we were buying. The agent rang the local council and got an answer straight away. In the UK, this would have taken a week or more to sort out.
But, back on topic. I looked out the kitchen window at the van, through the rain, and decided not to do anything to it.

I noticed a while ago that my sump was very rusty.
Over the last few days I've scraped, wire brushed, sanded and painted it.
Of course o e thing reveals another so decided to treat the front cross member at the same time.
Two of the bumper cover fixing screws sheared off despite my going carefully back and forth - I couldn't lubricate because go into the cross member.
So I sheared off the welded nut heated it and wound the remaining bolt back out. Nuts refixed with Plastic Padding - not yet tested in anger but I'm optimistic 😀
I'm 'looking forward' to do a bit more rust treatment inside the wheel arch revealed when removing the liners!!

I've ordered a new full width undertray from Latvia so that should protect the sump etc.
Incidentally the fixing bolts for the undertray are 10mm diameter and just to make sure a 5kg tray doesn't fall off they are fine pitch (1.25mm v normal 1.5mm) for extra strength 😀

If your Plastic Padding doesn’t work maybe you could use “Rivnuts” if you are going into a blind hole.

Sometimes you get better engine cooling as all the air is directed around the engine and doesn’t get spilled down out of the engine compartment.

That was my first thought after not welding it on as my son has just taken his welder away 😡
I'm optimistic as I got a good shoulder around it and unless I crash into something the loads should be minimal with fixings nearby on either side.
I even consider a plastic plasterboard plug and fat self tapping screw 😀
 
Just got back from my mate garage and had new heavy duty rear spring fitted and it’s sitting much better on the road so we’ll pleased .

I had a similar cover on my VW T5.

Impossible to get to the underneath for any servicing so extra time (=costs) to remove and then refit.
When I took it off to do some work on the front end, the foam deadening attached to it was totally sodden with water and oil. Horrible and a real mess!
It also makes it very awkward to do any kind of cursory visual checks of pipework etc underneath the engine.

Not sure if the benefits of the covers outweigh the negatives?
