What did you do to your van today?

Booked van in for MOT on Thursday. It’s been sitting on the drive since last April as I couldn’t drive due to an injury and only got back to driving in January. Hoping it passes ok!

I have been putting it off since I bought the van in November but today decided that the towbar just HAD to come off. I will never tow with the van and have no intention of adding a bike rack, so... Off it came!
Was not a bad job and the bolts and nuts all unscrewed easily. I have left the 7 pin connector still wired up and tucked away behind the bumper for now. I might keep the towbar as it might be of interest to a prospective buyer at some point in the future? But I might offer it for sale on the bay...
The whole lot came to around 32kg which is a useful addition to my available payload.

So, what did YOU do to your van today?

Filled the water tank ,fueled up .Packed clothes and filled up with food and drink and drove to Isle of Mull for a week .

When you have a compressor fridge Terry there are no fridge vent covers so no drafts

That will have been from the old 3-way of course
I have put a lot of insulation at the back of my fridge to block the drafts from the vents coming through
Usually totally block it off in the cooler months and leave it open in the summer so it can run a bit cooler.

(PS. don't have a fridge that needs venting anymore)

Finally fitted new shower tray. Totally gutted bathroom and mover everything around. It looks very white.

Then thought better of it and made a cup of tea.

not directly "to my van" but related ....I do jobs on it and some others and it takes me an age to fidn the tools and then to sort out the tools afterwards and know which ones I can't find (ask Anyjanet ... mailed him to ask if I left my favourite crimpers in his motorhome ) . Sometimes longer sorting tools than spend on the job )
So decided to start sorting my tools out this weekend
Using some Shadowfoam cut to size for the rolling cart. Bottom (largest) is the original sheet, the slightly smaller one (showing red) is the deeper bottom cart drawer and the top (showing black) is the upper smaller drawer.

Open-Ended + Ratchet on the right, Pipe Spanners on the left and Adjustable on the top
Hopefully once done will be dead easy to know what needs to go back - and where.

I carry very few spanner’s. Just stuff that will repair something inside or some small repairs.

So far as a set of spanner’s go I leave that to the breakdown recovery service.
So far after 40 years car and Moho I have not called them out. Fingers crossed I won’t need them for a long while but even so I still have that service in place…

When it was raining the least for a month (last week) I washed the bonnet of my MH, and as it is a Sprinter I managed to discover how to remove the black plastic grille covering the heater air intake and wash off the greenery down inside there.

Today, I made further progress. I washed an alloy wheel. What a useless showroom gimmick they are. And you can't buy a camper with steel wheels any more, so far as I know.

Something that always annoys me when you see screwdriver collections for sale is that they are all the same colour. Thus you are always sorting through the ten assorted phillips and pozi screwdrivers looking for a flat blade one. You will have noticed of course that all your pozi drivers collect like a trade union in your tool box, and export the flat screwdrivers when you need a flat one. Vice-versa when you need a pozi. Anyway so the result of me searching for screwdrivers is that I have got red/orange pozi and phillips ones, and blue flat blade ones. But to do that you have to buy them all separately, and from different shops. Why can't the manufacturers realise it would make life a lot easier if they colour coded their products?

This is why doing some kind of organisation is useful as most toolmakers do have their "signature" colour for all their tools.

However .... some do.
For example Halfords have Yellow for Flatblade, Blue for Philips, Red for Pozidrive and Green for Torx
If anyone is after quality tools, the Halfords Advanced range is hard to beat, and have a lifetime warranty which is as simple to use as taking a tool if broken into any Halfords and walking out with a new one.

Why don't they fit mud flaps anymore? vans would stay cleaner for longer and dirt would get thrown straight at the step.
