Not quite true, Annie. I actually caught 17 small cockles. No, really.
3 of which were on the same cast, 1 on each of the 3 barbs.
Now I've practised a little I feel that I'm ready to move on to phase 2.
Actually catching real, live fish.
Nothing too grand at first.
Perhaps a kipper?
Or the beluga whale which is currently cruising the Thames estuary seeking out my hooks?

Yup, 1 per day per angler .. Bass min size 42cm.
Our lad has been catching them in the Teign estuary, but even the macky are getting few and far between off the beach in Start bay.

When in Southend recently with Annie and Bill I was sufficiently inspired to buy Annie's original sea spinning rod, reel and lure from her.
Thanks for that, Annie.
Today I've been to our local fishing tackle shop and bought some fresh water kit to take sur le continent next week.
I really am looking forward to this!

I’ve thought about taking it up but not sure how successful I can realistically expect to be.
Always surprises me that beach casting can be successful so close to shore.
Would be good to do in Spain!!!

I only took it up last month and as a complete novice I had great success.
