Italian Gadabout

It looks like it was nice and quiet from your photos Rog. That's better than hoards of (mostly American) crowds I'd think.

Actually it was quite busy Graham, I think I was just lucky with the photos. Didn’t pick up on any American drawl, it appeared to be other European countries such as France, Spain etc. Could be a little early in the season for the yanks.
Of the three couples that we spent time with, two were from Scotland, although one couple now live in Malta, and the other from Tooting in London.

We were there in September and there were 6 mahoosive cruise ships in at the same time. The place was awash with septics...

Our Cuba/Caribbean No Fly Cruise from Tilbury was a no frills affair. so we invariably docked in the cheap berths in each port and wandered a few hundred metres further to the posher berths, where the mega cruise ships were anchored, At one port, we passed NCL's latest 14 deck leviathon [think Benidorm blocks set on a boat], just as it disgorged its somewhat numerous, and super obese passengers. I joined their line and asked what time the Slimmer of the Cruise Competition was scheduled for, because I quite fancied my chances of winning ... Tbf, they did see the funny side :D

Nice pics, Rog.
Even nicer of them to hose down the streets for your visit.
It gets so dusty, if they don't.
Hope all your future adventures are as pleasant.

Thanks Paul, to be fair, they did know we were coming and got their act together very quickly!
Drifting slowly South now, don’t know how far we’ll get, just take it day by day.
Got as far as Mesola this evening, and as I said, not in any particular hurry.

we had great trouble refilling with gas in italy something to do with differing tax values guy at the sostas sent us to an agent who filled our bottles

There are approx 1400 in the town, including (from memory) a church. They were designed to avoid taxation, because you only paid on finished buildings. The roof is supported on a central pole and when tax inspectors were spotted. the pole was raised and the roof collapsed! (Safer in a dry climate than UK!)

Another place of interest is the octagonal castle outside Andria. (Castel del monte). There is ample parking but a bit of a drag up to the walls.

If you like "names" then you should go to Monopoli!
Further north along the coast is Polignano a Mare, which has an attractive cove (Lido Cala Paura), but it can get busy.

Matera has the Sassi: cave dwellings from the Paleolithic era.

We were intrigued by earthquake activity at the Monticchio Lakes and the lovely Abbazia de San Michele Arcangel, just west of Rionero in Vulture.

All intriguing stuff Gordon, thank so much. All duly noted.
On Day 12 now, and we hope we have started to leave the Industrial north behind us. Tonight we are camping at Misano Adriatico, a free parking area, within walking distance of the beach. They are actively cleaning/sweeping the sand, probably in readiness for the Easter onslaught.3F855F27-662F-4072-972C-3BCE166E7F2F.jpeg

Going through some memories and I recalled seeing a wolf in central Italy. We were staying near Opi, which boasts several shops and restaurants relating to wild animals.

However, info from TIO caused us to go to Civitella Alfadena where there is an Area Faunistica del Lupo, a large walled area with plenty of trees, bushes etc and a resident wolf. Not wild but quite exciting to sit and watch for it. There was a good trail around the village taking in local sights.

We also visited the Camosciara Nature Reserve and walked most of the way to the waterfalls when my wife announced that she couldn't go any further. I left her at a cafe and very naughtily drove through the No Entry sign to collect her, being very concerned about the punishment which might ensue.

presumably on your way north you’ll be going near rome if you do there is a lovely place called Ostia it was imperial romes main sea port about 15 km away at the mouth of the Tiber it’s now about 5 km inland , it is preserved as an archaeological park and school kids & university students are taken round but also open to the public

Thanks for all your suggestions, they are all very welcome.
We are still at Mesona Adriatico at the moment, enjoying the fabulous week end weather.
We treated ourselves to an electric Pizza Oven today from Lidls and bought a Four Cheese frozen pizza, to try it out.
Had to change the plug to a three pin square, but just loving it!

Hmmmmm, looks delish and oven did a grande job.

Roger, love pizza, albeit in moderation, get the base right, you can Chuck road kill on it and it will taste delicious 😋

I like a Calzone pizza, try one first at a proper pizza gaff, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed, then try using your own oven. I’m feeling hungry now talking about Calzone 😋

We carry a similar machine with us Rog, called a G3 Ferrari. https://www.g3ferrari.net/en/delizia-red.html

I make my own pizza dough and freeze it in suitable sizes for rolling out and using whilst away in the MH. it does liven up the weekly menu a bit. If you want to get adventurous when you get home Rog I'm happy to share my dough recipe.
