Italian Gadabout

Oh Roger we call days when we have to shop do the washing and wash the van admin days. Your day goes above that apart from swearing we don’t have a name for days when it breaks ? I am sure someone on here does though.
We are just waiting to get our clutch done now in Rip of Britain !!!

Roger do you have TPM's ? did they give any sort of warning ?

Hope you have got your new tyres sorted. How are the Italian prices are they similar to here ?

Aw, c'mon Jeff, that pun was home groan ... And I resisted the temptation to refer to 'retyrement' [until now ...] I'm happy in my own wee world, where reality is Shakespearian [Bard]

'The quality of mercy is not strained' [just a pity the same can't be said for the attmpts at jokes' cries a voice from the audience :D

Rog - I can recommend Camping Fusina at Venice. 200m walk to the ferry which takes you into the city. ACSI site too if my memory serves...

Thanks Graham it does look superb.
The website is in Italian and only some parts of it translate into English. Trying to find out if they have Lagoon side pitches for a couple of nights

No luck with Camping Fusina, no pitches at all it seems. We have parked at San Giullanino for a couple of nights.
Going to pop over to Venice, on the bus, in the morning. €1.50 per person, each way and Max goes free. Buses run every 10mins from 7am til midnight. Perhaps get a bit of washing done, while we are here.
Weather is amazing, with mid day temps around 25c and clear blue skies, which of course are still making for chilly nights.
Hopefully have some interesting photos of Venice tomorrow.
One thing that is spoiling it for us is the sheer amount of potholes in the roads, even on the motorways. I would like to take the slower, more local, roads, but I fear they are even less maintained. Hey Ho! Will see when we head South from Venice. My guess is that at the moment we are still very much in the Industrial North and things will get better as we travel South.

You might have been lucky by giving Camping Fusina a swerve. We stayed there a while ago and during the night the sirens kicked off and there was an almighty crash from the adjacent ugly works that reverberated throughout the whole campsite.

I hope the roads have improved since I last visited. I'd intended to follow the Adriatic Coast as I drove south, but I was shocked by the appalling congestion in almost every coastal village. In the end I admitted defeat and took the motorway, only leaving to visit places I wanted to see as I drove on. From memory, it was quieter and less congested once I passed Termoli. From the Gargano Peninsula onwards I loved it.

I'm surprised that Fusina was full at this time of year. We went in September and it was brisk but no where near full as it's a decent sized site. No issues with sirens or noises when we were there fortunately,

Thanks for the suggestion anyway Graham. Always appreciated. We are only here for a couple of nights anyway, so it’s not like a big deal.

No probs Rog. I think when I researched our trip there were plenty of options to choose from.

Not sure if this is a regular occurrence, but we pulled into a motorway service area yesterday to top up the gas, to be chased off the pump by a very annoyed attendant shouting ‘No camping No camping’!
So we just pulled into the town of Padova and topped up at a local garage. Even there, it was attended service, still we scored on the price, paying €0.74/l instead of the €0.98/l so result all round really.

Reminiscent of Total in France, Rog, yet the major supermarkets and the other Fuel brand garages allow LPG refills. Bizarre!

We spent yesterday relaxing at Camp San Giuliano in glorious sunshine, had a good nights sleep and this morning trotted off to the bus stop to spend a few hours in Venice.
We decided to leave Max in the van with all the roofs open, because even at 11am it was nearly 30C.
The tram ride had to be prepaid at the campsite, €6 for two return, and then it was about 15 mins walk through the adjacent park.49773451-A4DA-4484-9177-D90AB8829EB5.jpeg49773451-A4DA-4484-9177-D90AB8829EB5.jpeg

Then it was into town for a good wander about.

We spent the first hour deciding where to have coffee, they are all so appealing!
We met some English speaking people at an adjacent table so Coffee turned into Lunch, and then after another stroll around, we decided that the only sensible thing to do next was have some Italian ice cream, where we met another English speaking couple, so one thing lead to another, and we suddenly realised that we had chatted too long and Max would be climbing up the walls for a wee.
Going to spend another evening here, before heading South.

I don't know how well you know the Italians, but they loved our little mugwump. We took her everywhere with us, and they always provided water, shade and treats for her in every restaurant we visited. The only exception was a bus driver in Sorrento who wouldn't let her on without a muzzle. So we caught the next bus. 😄
