What did you do to your van today?

Took the van for its first French mot equivalent ( Control technique) Because its over 3500kg, we have to book in with a test centre specialising in poids lourdes ( hgv).
An interesting half hour! There is usually only one person in these centres, so, he gave me a walk-in talkie and I sat in the van and followed his instructions as he went through the various tests ( lights, brakes, emissions. )
Of course, it passed, but I did wonder if I would get a 50% reduction as I seemed to do most of the work!

Converted Marchies van into an Avairy.
Well seemed that way when a Hawk flew in and had a look around for something then a few minutes later decided to leave. Then 15 or so minutes later a sparrow or whatever started flapping around in the cab and then flew out the door a couple of minutes later.

Thanks again, David. I'll have to wait until tomorrow for daylight to appreciate the changes with the Inverter and the extra sockets so that we'll have a power source where we need it, instead of where we can find one! You forgot to mention the 'joint decision' to remove the Dining Table on a permanent basis and the amazing amount of extra usable space we'll have once I've moved said Table + Base to the Spare Room ... Bonus is the restoration of some payload with the weight the outgoing table and column weighed

Have y8u broken one all ready ?.
Na! It came that way, they dropped the price by 1K to allow me to get a new one and fit myself. I thought they were being kind untill I tried to get one and saw the freekin price. They wanted £300 for the large mirror and £200 for the smaller piece but the mounting plate for the mirror at the rear was also broken a cover was missing from the front as well so was a cheaper option to purchase the complete unit. Made in Spain by Arcol the unit I needed has the GPS antena fitted also. Look on the bright side thats everything sorted now well when I fit the micro switch in the tap and bolt the mirror on and find out where the five wires go and what to remove to get them connected. One other thing to look at as well the overhead LED strip dips in brightness almost like a slow pulse. Another day!

When we bought this van it had a damaged back bumper and a piece was missing, about a year later I found that they had kept it under the passenger seat in the jack box, the bumper has a load of cracks in it now and I'm afraid it's going to break completely and end up falling of so it's going for repair on Monday quoted price is £230 to remove repair and paint it's glass fibre they say so should be a good repair the actual bumper is bonded out of three sections so I'll get them to put in some reinforcement so it has a bit more rigidity.

I can get a new section for the broken part from O'learys but it's £280 so it's not contest.

Having removed the much too large Dining Table for the Inverter fitting, we looked at all that new space, realised the cheapo camping table we bought in France is too long ... But, we can carry a pair of comfortable outdoor chairs instead of the cleverly designed, but not terribly comfortable Helios 'DIY Assembly' chairs. So we bought a pair of Outwell Lomond Folding Chairs in Kirkcaldy and then put an online order for 2 x Vango 60cm x 40cm Tables that fold in half; so they can move into the Broom Cupboard space vacated by the Helios Chairs ... And finished off with 3 x Really Useful Storage Boxes from Asda, so that stuff is stored tidily and logically, instead of being rammed onto a shelf that seems to have a wee bit of space ... It's only money

Fitted the new mirror, stripped out the old wiring after removing the dash and pulled a trace along with the old loom to draw through the new wiring loom, when removing the screws from the original mirror after it was off the backing pad came loose to reveal a small socket. A 4 hr job that should only have taken a half hour. 😂😂😂20221008_113119.jpg20221008_113123.jpg20221008_143512.jpg

I'd be horrified to find that, but not a problem as I'll never buy an A class, C class builds are bad enough.
