What did you do to your van today?

What did I do yesterday.
My Mppt controller failed on my last trip. Replaced with a new one under guarantee.
I wasn’t given any clue as to why it had failed. So I rubbed my two brain cells together and came up with this.
As it was located in the wardrobe, probably covered in clothes, maybe it wasn’t getting enough airflow. I’ve moved it from the bottom of the wardrobe to the top, where it’s in an open area, above coat hangers. There’s now a right angled 12 volt fan, on a switch, that I can turn on when the temperature rises.
Hopefully that will help it work more efficiently.
Didn’t it have a fan and heat sink built in? Needs air flow but shouldn’t need extra fan, especially if it’s one of those huge blue things 👍

Humongous blue thing. It’s got the heat sink. I’ve added the fan , just in case. As I said, I’ve no idea why the previous one failed. The fan is a precaution.

Went in the van and took out 2 pairs of Linda's shoes, one pair grey with bows on the front size 7 the other pair were a lighter grey with flower size 7, bought in Ilkeston, when we had the van furniture recovered.
I found a pair of my shoes size 15 in brown so I got them as well.
Came out locked it and return to the warmth of the house.
Sorry Steve I may have precis this a bit.
Size 15 you say. clown.jpg

It should be as close to the battery as possable, up high seems like miles away.

Motorhome failed the MOT last week on handbrake efficiency :(
Took it back today to get that sorted out and retested, plus an Oil and Filter Change whilst in the garage (y)

Fresh ticket for a year with only advisory being on the Front Discs, which I tend to expect with the lack of use and damp environment :)
Won't do anything about those until the Springtime as no point in refreshing this time of year.

Total cost to rectify the brakes (test drive applying handbrake intermittantly fixed one side; other side needed wheel off and adjusted through wheel studhole), plus the oil, filter and labour costs was under £130, so happy with that.

If discs not rotten or groved get them shotblasted, helps new pads bed in to.

shotblast the discs? is it really worth it? that would cost the same then getting new ones at least I bet. I have never heard of anyone doing that.

5 min job, we used to do them for £5 a set, works well, discs are very expensive these days, my van ones are over £100 each.

By the time you have removed them and then refitted them, you may as well replace the buggers instead of finding a place to do that, then spending time and fuel going there and back, then refit them and finding the shot blasting has got them out of true more than likely and back to square one. "Find a better place to get them done" could be the reply, but why bother in the first place?
I'll be passing on that option especially as Ducato discs are nowhere near £100 each. Brake Discs generally are NOT very expensive in my own experience (last set I fitted was on the car .... pair of discs plus set of pads for under £50)

These are my discs, s blasting does not harm them, helps the pads break in.van discs.jpgins a.jpg

Yes had to order more stuff ! Just took back doors apart and nothing in there at all

I don't know how common they are, but I have seen van conversions with a wide strip inside covering the vertical join between the two rear doors. Seemed a good way to eliminate any drafts making their way in the gap?
