What did you do to your van today?

Broke a Fiamma tightening clamp (the big red button bit) on the newest of the 3 arms. Will need to get the official Fiamma bit, but as an interim measure, I visited the Tortosa Fereterria and bought 6 washers and two threaded knobs. Cut an exit point in each washer with a junior hacksaw (held in a pair of molegrips) to allow the threaded rod to pass through to allow the bracket to open fully, then superglued them to the remains of the plastic base to give a solid surface for the new knob to grip. Less than €5 for the materials, ignoring the 2 buggered hacksaw blades from my existing stock and the bit of microspore to cover my left index finger when the hacksaw kicked ...

Finally given up on fixing my Truma 6002 Combi boiler. Over the last three years it's had a full strip down and clean over the gas side, a new 12v circulation fan, two new electric heating elements, and two replacements of the power transistor (which feeds the circulation fan) on the main PCB.

The two previous transistors lasted a good few months, putting off the inevitable, but the one fitted yesterday failed within a few minutes and now I've lost any remaining faith I had in it.

New Truma 4E heater ordered today, booked in to be fitted next Wednesday.

Put some new tissue paper and towel along under front w shield to stop water running down the back of the dash, time i built a winter canopy for her.

Hope you get it sorted once and for all now mate

Hinged 2 X 120watt solar panels together made rack in garage ,made up lead and added a socket in van to plug them into...for the times extra solar needed IE shaded pitch or poor weather...400watt on roof now 240 watts to plug in. Went for rigid panels having seen endless poor long term reviews on foldable panels. Also added a 50amp mains charger and 1000w suitcase generator...just in case !
Then just as I thought all was done found Adblue leaking from bottom of tank (2020 Boxer at 24k miles !)

Phill checked that both bikes would fit on the rack. Turned out to be a better fit than the 2 pure pedal powers.
Then we messed around putting 2 covers on, worked well and will protect bikes better from all the road crap.
I then made a heavy duty bag to store both covers in.

Now we just need to plan a few days away with some safe cycling, to road test the dog on the back of the bike.

MH back from MOT, no advisories, fluid levels check for integrity prior to early March trip to Europe. I'm trying to source a local-ish company who does steam cleaning, get trhis done and apply Lano Guard.

Get out somewhere not too far next week for two three days to check water/heating is all working OK. (y)

On the VW Forum I used to use (when I had VWs!), there was a very strong recommendation for a company in the Glasgow area for the steam cleaning. Not sure if that is local enough? can have a search to see who it was if of any interest.

I can't recall if the company did just the cleaning, or followed up with an underbody protection service as well.

We had a power cut day after the first big storm last Tuesday so I tried the Truma heater in the van and couldn't get it started :( I had had the gas turned off since last November and I think it was just a supply thing as eventually the next day got it working with some spluttering and then all nice and smooth :)

Hi David, I’m just south of Edinburgh, I’ll give Allan’s coaches a call on Monday, also K&I at Hardendeen first, Glasgow a tad far, also with Glasgow, you have to watch you don’t drive into LEZ or whatever they call zone, there’s £30 right away!!

This is something I have been considering on my motorhome as well. From what I saw from the guys VW T4, never too late to get steam clean and protection to keep things from getting worse! So please post how you get on.

Yes of course I did Jeffrey, the owner has a family to feed and keep a roof over their heads. Unlike yourself, I couldn’t sleep at night known I was being a financial burden.

I wouldn’t be surprised your man shops at the local food bank, his Bairn’s wearing clothes from a charity shop, you will burn in hell Jeffrey!!!
