What did you do to your van today?

For a while running MH within the garden at home, leaving to tick over etc, later I cold pick up the distinct whiff of derv, not over powering, just there. when it rained I could see rainbowing on the surface water. During MH recent MOT, I mentioned derv smell, and asked them to check MH over when on their ramp, nothing evident.

With our pending trip on Le Shuttle, I have not been able to rest easily knowing I may have a fuel leak issue, which I have discussed with the Laird on occasions, just chat between us.

Today I got to the root of my problem ( I bet Jeffreys mate would not have sussed this one out, he would probably want his van to burn and free him from slavery ) A ball ache of a job, once top part of air filter, incl filter removed, I could see the fuel filter, my issues did point to this area, which is why it is handy to know the workings of your motor, aint that right Jeff

Before I could totally remove air filter housing, I had to remove and push to the side an electrical box containing fuses, then I could remove AF housing, which was a pita btw, all due to mods done to MH when built.

Now I had a clear view of fuel filter, I turned MH over and let if run for a few mins, I could see fuel seeping from the seal where the fuel filter screws into filter housing. Engine off, dry off filter area, filter was loose, I easily turned each way by hand. I hand tightened, with a little extra torque to make sure, restarted MH, all looks well, no weeping of fuel at sealed O-ring area.

Monday I will replace fuel filter, which I have not done before, I assume it is an easy task, although I am not sure what the black cap with cable attached does, is it easy to remove, then refit to new filter, Jeffrey, is your slave.....oops, mate free? Anyhoooo, any advice greatly appreciated re refitting fuel filter pro's/cons?

I cant say I am looking forward to putting it all back together, it will be painful task, with copious amounts of silicon grease added to the various rubber pipe that fit into the air filter housing for ease of install. That said though, no pain no gain, I would not be happy driving onto the shuttle knowing I had a fuel leak/weep issue.

I'll up load pics which are on my phone, in a mo .

BTW, I shudder to think the hourly cost to get to fuel filter to replace. Unless you have connections to Jeffrey’s mate….slave…..mate 😂😂😂

Terry mind fill the new filter slowly with diesel and when it starts hold the revs around 1200 rpm and you shouldn’t need to bleed it
It might be a water in filter sensor the black cap but usually are in the bottom

Gordon, I assume the filter is a straight forward screw off and new one on type, not the type and style you mentioned last week, also, does the black cap just pull off?

Does the Fuel Filter not require a special tool, Terry, to avoid the risk [a common problem according to various Forums] of messing up the seal and turning a seep into a downpour?
